Jewellery by David&Martin is well-known for its independent style that combines high fashion elements with minimalist casualness.
The brand was founded in Stockholm, the capital of Scandinavia, by two young graduates of Swedish University College of Arts, Crafts and Design David Andersson and Martin Lasson. Designers shared interest in old books, contemporary electronic music, Scandinavian and Egyptian aesthetics and appreciation of beautiful and confident women. After David and Martin started to work together, they tried to mix these elements into jewellery pieces that are clean, graphic and feminine with a masculine edge, and create the jewellery in their own way – feminine but not necessarily “pretty”.
The designers themselves describe brand’s style as the essence of Scandinavian aesthetics, of sexuality and fashion.
This unique design approach has proven itself working after David&Martin’s black resin bracelets caught the eye of Karl Lagerfeld who was then working on the collection for H&M in Stockholm. As a result, David&Martin got commissioned to design a 10 piece collection for Lagerfeld Gallery, setting the brand’s way to international success.
The rules of David&Martin’s style do not allow trends or fashions to dictate brand’s distinct philosophy that all the pieces should remain timeless. Every new collection by the brand is a further enhancing addition to our existing creations, which is like a project that is ever-evolving or an creative showcase that is ever-growing and inspirational. The brand never follows the trends but aims to inspire women to think different and be different, be themselves. The best style is your own – that’s the company’s motto.
Jewellery by David&Martin has very cool, Scandinavian design and is worn by Robyn, Loreen and other international celebrities. David&Martin is unpredictable and adventurous, I would compare it to Yves Saint Laurent, Lagerfeld and Georgio Armani with its love to black, red, leather and gold.
David&Martin as a brand got its first commercial breakthrough after designing Chicken Feet collection. The story tells that it came to life after designers travelled to Asia and caught sight of a beautiful girl in Shanghai subway who was munching deep fried chicken feet and simultaneously flicking through French Vogue. The Chicken Feet collection became an international fashion bestseller.
David&Martin has won several design awards and became the only Swedish jewellery design brand included in the book “Fashion Jewellery Catwalk and Couture” by Maia Adams alongside Louis Vuitton, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Judy Blame, Comme des Garcons, etc. David&Martin designed a special jewellery piece – Fauna-Futura – that was presented and exhibited at famous boutique Colette in Paris during Paris Fashion Week.
The brand currently mainly sells online on http://www.davidandmartin.com/ but comes to the stores during the year. They offer free shipping worldwide and has an outlet section. Real Scandinavian finding!
